The term ‘Diaspora’ is used to refer to people who have left their homelands and settled in other parts of the world, either because they were forced to do so or because they wanted to leave on their own. The word is increasingly used for such people as a collective group and a community. The world has seen many diasporas but scholars have been studying the phenomenon with great interest only in recent decades.

Among the great diasporas of history is that of the Jewish people, who were forced to leave their lands in ancient times. The movement of Aryans from Central Europe to the Indian Sub-continent thousands of years ago is also a noteworthy diaspora, although the causes of this diaspora are unclear. In the twentieth century history, the Palestinian Diaspora has attracted a lot of attention and been a cause of concern for world leaders because of the plight of Palestinians. There have been massive diasporas in Africa too, over the centuries, either because of war or because of the ravages of nature. But the chief reason why the phenomenon of diaspora is attracting so much attention now is globalization.

Dreams may be soft, shadowy and may be horrible. Dreams have no colour. Though dreams have no real purpose, they help us to reach a fruitful conclusion. It is not possible to dream all night and it is deemed that dreams have no connection with reality. There is a difference between imagination and dream. Dream can be lively or vague. However dreams have an important role in our life. They serve to ‘clean up’ clutter from our mind to prepare well for the next day. Dreams are not meaningless rather during dreams the cognitive power of our brain produce new ideas.

8. DRESS DOES NOT MAKE A MAN GREAT

Sheikh Sa’adi was a great Persian poet. He used to put on ordinary dress. Once, he took a shelter in a house of nobleman. The nobleman could not recognize him and treated him as an ordinary man as he was wearing an ordinary dress. The poet got upset but did not say anything. But deep in his mind he bore the incident and decided to teach the man a good lesson. As he was on the way of the King’s palace he did not disclose the matter. A few days later, while returning from his visiting the king he again took shelter in that noble man’s house. This time he was wearing a gorgeous dress. This time he was dully respected and honoured by the man and his people. They give him rich food. The poet did not eat the food but he began to put the food in his pocket. Seeing this, the rich man was astonished. He asked the poet about this type of behavior. Then the poet said, ‘My dress deserves these rich foods. Had it not been so, I would have been treated in the same manner when I was poorly dressed.’ The noble man got the point and begged apology for the blunder he did with the great poet.

10. The graph illustrates young people’s changing attitude to pastimes in a community. In 2000, the most interesting pastime of the young people was sports and 50% youth pursued it. The second one in the list was watching TV and 41%young people enjoyed this pastime. At the same time only 9% young was interested in online activity. In 2010 48% young was interested to watching TV while 38% was in sports and at the same time the online users were rising and it was 14%. In 2015, 52% young people were interested in watching TV which was only 2% more than the year 2000 and 4% more than the year 2010. Only 25% young people used to spend their time in sports and the interest drastically shifted to online activity. In 2015, 23% young people enjoyed online activity which was nearly three times more than the year 2000. So, from the graph we can easily say that young people are gradually becoming addicted to online activity which is very alarming.

11. Dreams-Langston Hughes

Theme : The theme of the poem is the importance of having dreams and how miserable a life without dreams be. In the poem the poet shows the contrast between a life with dreams and a life without dreams. The poet inspires the readers to go on dreaming and never to give up because without dreams life is a total futility. So one has to have dreams and to make the dreams come true. The poet further advises the reader to have tight grip on their dreams. Without dreams, he says, life is like a bird whose wings are broken. A broken-winged bird cannot fly and just like that a man without a dream having no destination. Without dream life will turn into a barren land covered with snow which cannot grow any crop.
